The Little Stranger contains many gothic elements. The doppleganger element is prominent in my opinion. Dr. Faraday commits acts that he has no memory of. The Little Stranger is his ghostly counterpart. The explained supernatural exists due to the doctor blaming all activity on natural causes. Door opening on their own was explained away due to drafts. The phone ringing and no one being on the line was explained as a mix up of the lines. The servant bells ringing on their own was chalked up to the house falling apart. The setting gave an atmosphere of mystery and suspense. The mansion was built in the 1700's and was in disrepair with dark basement hallways much like a dungeon. The mansion is haunted as it is regularly visited by a ghost. I would appreciate any other gothic elements you have found.
